Will I Meet??

One of the amazing things about this particular study abroad is that I will be studying Truth and Reconcilliation from the ACTUAL Truth and Reconciliation Commissioners who facilitated the transitional process that led from apartheid to democracy ! Basically I will get to meet and study under all of the authors on my pre-departure reading list who are experts in the fields of transitonal and restorative justice.

Though I will have unbelievable access to prominent scholars, activists, and famous South African intellectuals, I'm also holding hope that I may get to meet the great Nelson Mandela or Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Time is Ticking

• With just barely a month left before I depart to South Africa so many things are on my mind! Funding this trip has been truly a harrowing experience. I've been overwhelmed by the immense generosity of my friends and family and have also found that one really has to seek out alternative ways of thinking about funding. The festival of funding is not nearly over though I trust, hope and pray that I will have everything I need by the time I depart.

The political complexities of post-apartheid South Africa have erupted in Johannesburg (luckily my program takes place in Cape Town) bringing the actuality of the South African struggle into ever clearer light.

I'm excited, I'm apprehensive, I'm dedicated to this journey. I can't wait to leave. Gotta go look for more funding! KISSES!
